The biggest advantages of Lions Bay are the reasonable cost - see my post on Jan 24th and the friendly staff.
The most negatives are that it is relatively crowded in the Marina, the ramp is relatively old and a bit worn, and that you have to power over to the dock after launching.
Despite the disadvantages, I like their ramp and we will be launching from there again this year.

We launched at Sunset several years ago. It wasn't too busy so we rigged in front of the store and then backed in. We were able to launch in a minus tide, which was good. We felt even better with the secured parking.
bullet Kermie on Sunday 29 January 2012 - 11:47:42
I see looking at Google maps that Lions Bay does not have a dock alongside the launch ramp to tie the boat while parking the trailer. It will require two people. One to park the trailer and one to move the boat over to the dock for passengers. What is the cost of Lions Bay?
bullet Kermie on Sunday 29 January 2012 - 11:07:41
Balazs, I have already scoped out the ramp at Sewels and it really is a no-go for our boats and there is no easy turn around for backing down nor is there any place to park the rig. Forget about it. Sunset is not all that easy either but better than Sewels. I have not seen Lions Bay.
bullet Windspiration on Friday 27 January 2012 - 08:09:45
We launched at Sunset Marina last year and if I recall correctly it was $30 to launch and $25 per day to park. This year if we are able to go we will ty Lions Bay Marina I think.

Better to launch a little farther up the highway at Sunset Marina or Lions Bay Marina.

We will launch from Lions Bay Marina for our trip to Gibsons. It is just a few km north of Sewell's. Last year launching and first day parking was $ 25, then $ 10 per day in Municipal lot across railroad tracks (2 minute walk). Lots of room for car and trailer.
bullet Balazs on Tuesday 24 January 2012 - 12:17:09
Registered for Gibsons!!! Would love to sail from Sewell's Marina, the only question is can one leave the van and trailer anywhere around there? Anybody know? Thanks,

Can anyone tell me what is the problem when you lower your mast and the cage on the roller fuller slips down after you disconnect it from the bow eye? Is there a photo or drawing of the bottom of the roller fuller available?

My slip reservations are made for Gibsons (May 18, 19, 20), Bowen Island (Jun 1, 2) and Ganges (Jun 30, Jul 1). Gibsons is encouraging others to make their reservations early as it is a long weekend. We will be continuing on to the San Juans after Ganges for July 4th in Friday Harbour but haven't figured out an intinery yet to make reservations.
