To all potential new members.
Thinking of buying a M26... go to forum and see "Q&A of buying a MacGregor".
OUr club is here to help you make the transition from landlubber to shipmates on your own MacGregor.

Dear Members,

We have a family that will be joining the club as soon as they find the 26S they are looking for.

Can anyone recommend a good surveyor in Vancouver?

Please post it here, and I will reply to them.

Thanks
Darry

Dear Members,

Just a quick reminder about the 2010 "Boat Show" coming up next weekend!

It would really be great if we could have members at the booth for the entire show, but we still have a few open spots.

Please see the post called "Boat Show 2010" for the list of available times, as well as a few photos of the new booth display.

Thanks in advance!

Searching for any information I can find on changing my standard jib over to jib furling for a 26x. Can anybody steer me in the right direction? I would like something that is more compatable with trailering. Any suggestion of suppliers in the lower mainland area?

Hey Bob! My 26 foot classic is specified for a 10 horsepower o/b max. With this in mind, you could probably put a 25 on the back, but don't push it too hard. I run a 15 on mine, and it responds excellent! Good Luck!!!
bullet Coastal Drifter on Monday 22 February 2010 - 14:50:01
Bob, my guess is that you would be over powerin the boat. When I have questions like that about the older boats (we have a Classic) I call the factory in California. They are always happy to provide information.

I am from Houston and trying to find some information on a recently purchased Macgregor. It is a 23' and wondering if we can put a 25 hp Johnson {its all we currently have} on the motor mount? Can anyone help with this question? Bob

Boating season must be just about here. I just came in from cutting my lawn!

For those of you who haven't yet paid your dues, if you want to avoid getting a nasty reminder from me the deadline is February 28th. Same as the RRSP deadline, but you gave up saving for your retirement when you bought a boat:)

I am ordering a few of those mast plate bearings ($20.00 ea.) for the 26M from Gail @ Blue Water Yachts in Seattle. She charges me $10.00 for the postal service so I am getting two for myself. If anyone else would like to buy one for their 26M rotating mast to try out please let me know and I will order extras and bring them to the next meeting. They work better than those goofy washers you have at the mast base currently.

Finally Friday the winds were right, and the High Tech Solid Wing of BMW Oracle showed its power and won the first race against the more "traditional" Alinghi. See americascup.com for more details!!

At the boat show i attended a seminar by Jim Neale. He gave out much info on offshore sailing, you can find good info on he has a section on boat selection, types of boats and the why's he chooses to recommend or not.
Some stuff that can even assist a MacGregor Sailor.

Glad to see you felt that way too. I was thinking that I wouldn't travel all the way to Seattle again, it was no better than the Vancouver show.

Seattle boat show in review. Float show, 11 sailboats of which 3 where 40' and under. Inside 3 sailboats of which 2 where Macgregors. The shows we went for "cruising to Broughtons" presenter was sick so we got a speel on west coast sailing the broken group. The overall show when you think that their is no Vancouver Boat show and no Oregon show, was poor, definate signs of hard times. even the labour in the big production sail boats was off, quality control is down even at the manufaturing level.
Well that's my 2 cents

Thanks to Glen and Shelley for hosting the meeting last night. My personal opinion is that the meetings in members homes are much better than meeting in a restaurant. To those who missed the meeting - you missed Shelley's home made cinnamon buns, they were delicious.
