Hi All,
I’m looking for 2 fold advice and or recommendations:
1) Recommendations between the Yamaha high thrust 9.9 3 blade and the Tohatsu 9.8 high thrust 4 blade to go onto my M26S displacement hull.
2) Boat launches with safe & inexpensive parking while little to no current.1) Which motor? I value torque when in current, but also weight savings as I might be pulling the motor on and off quite often now!
I ran into an unfortunate event with my Mac 26S motor where someone vandalized it beyond repair and now I’m looking to replace it. I’m not certain which motor I should go with between the Tohatsu 9.8 FOUR blade, or the Yamaha 9.9 high thrust THREE blade.
Has anyone tried the Yamaha 9.9 high thrust on a classic S or D, and if so, how does it fair? Prop clash? Motor steering command ease? The Yamaha with the extra long shaft comes in heavy at around 112 lbs wet.
The Yamaha three blade is larger prop which concerns me a bit with the potential clash of the 26S boat rudder.
I believe the Yamaha will provide more thrust than the Tohatsu, but is considerably heavier. The Tohatsu with the extra long shaft is lighter but I haven’t got the exact weight as of yet.
The Tohatsu four blade prop is definitely smaller in diameter than the 3 blade Yamaha.
I’m not certain how the four blade prop on the Tohatsu will fair when I’m in the Fraser river current near Ladner.Recommendations?
2) Affordable boat launches with parking and minimal current? Options?
I have been launching my boat at Ladner and running the Fraser river out to the ocean, but when coming back in their is always current despite the best timing with tides. For that reason I pull out at Steveston, but the river is still a battle in.
If I can avoid the Fraser river entirely it would suspect the Tohatsu would be totally fine.
Once I’m out of the river and out in the ocean the tidal currents are never much problem as I can time them accordingly.I’m mostly sailing out by Harrison, so any salt water put in and pull out recommendations a greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
