I know theres an RV park at the Port of Anacortes, just to the north.
We stayed in the LaConner RV park last year, it was ok.I know its not possible now, but when some normalcy comes to the world, I am wondering if most places the rallies are held, is there either camping in a motorhome or/and accommodations fairly close? Would enjoy joining the group at some of the cruises destinations.
I can’t address the galvanic isolator, theres never been one at the docks I kept my boats at.
If you want Solar, figure out how much power you need to keep the batteries charged, how much sun you will get per day/week/month. Then you will have to determine how many watts of solar input you can put on the boat. Its very doable. You could have permanently installed units and portable solar panels.
Then you will have to decide what kind of panels, and controller you want. I have a 6300KW array of panels for the house. It interties to the electrical grid. I also have two 300 watt panels, 30 amp controller, and six 110AH batteries. I can run electrical equipment in my shed in all months but the mid winter months. Then I just use the 110V.
I know several in the club have solar panels installed on their boats, they would be a good source on how much 110AC power you would have to add in addition to the solar.Well, I wasn’t going to do any mods. Just clean and sail, however the boating gods got me..
I went to start the Wallas Stove/Heater two days ago and after a puff of smoke, I assumed the board was bad and when I got the unit out of the mount an aluminum tube was corroded through. I called Scan Marine and had a talk with one of the owners. They could fix the stove or I could buy another. The stove has been in the boat for 12 years so when I got to their offices in Seattle I decided to just get a new one. The only real difference is the control thermostat. Works good now.

Seal up the port rub rail.
A new Raymarine SmartPilot X-5 Sport is for sale on craigslist if anyone is interested.

Would be cool to see one though.I have had the wheel mounted AP on the boat since 2006, didn’t realize it was so old till I needed a template to remount the indicator. It was the only model choice when bought. I don’t find the wheel ever hinders my fingers on the wheel. I know some have put spacers between the wheel and the AP to give more room. Just never have needed it.
When set up for sailing I find the AP does a much better job of holding course then I will.
Not sure what the settings are for sensitivity, but other then at low speeds the boat wants to wander back and forth. I have tried a little centerboard, and it doesn’t seem to make a difference. Really I only use it when I need to go below, set the main when alone, or if sailing slowly so I can read and sail.
Using the lock mechanism seems to work just fine for short times, say a minute to three minutes, it all depends on winds, waves, and currents. Seems like a lot of money but in the long run, it gives you piece of mind. I wish mine was hooked up to the chart plotter, however, its been fine the way it is now. The next owner can do that.
I use the auto tack most times. I have it set for about 120 degrees, have fine tuned it in a long time. But it gets you around and then I can pinch up more if I need to.
The chartplotter and AP have been the two best investments. We have the full cockpit enclosure, but have really only used it once. Last year at Port Ludlow, it rained continually all day long.Nevermind the posts are visible to everyone. Learning more every day.
Perhaps if you posted this in the Public Forum too, there might be more of a pool that would be interested.
I kind of wish my auto pilot would break, would love to try out a new one. When you get yours installed let me know how it works with motoring. -
