      • Update: 2Wish’n, pending work & wxx, may depart Point Roberts Thur May 30th, clear CA Customs (Jericho) and anchor overnight in False Creek. Depart for Snug Cove Fri May 31st. We may also return to False Creek post Bowen. We will not at this time able to continue onward to Desolation Sound. However Desolation Sound is on our bucket list!

        • UPDATE: 2Wish’n has cancelled our reservation and switched waitlist “Gratitude” 26S Ken Schmitt into our slip May 31 – Jun 2, ‘24. Tom with USSC will contact Ken to confirm directly with them.

We are coming in from Point Roberts WA Marina. Return passage will be on Mon Aug 5th straight back to Point Roberts channel passage TBD.

We have not yet solo anchored or hooked onto a mooring ball so this is an opportunity for something new. As well, trying different passages is something we like to do when we have time rather than always transiting through Active Pass.

  30. Per Otter Bay Marina Mar 11, 2024:
“ We are not yet taking reservations for the 2024 boating season. We have put you on the waitlist for the dates you have requested. We will begin making confirmed bookings in April. Please feel free to check back if you haven’t received a reservation confirmation by end of April.”

    • Cristina and Sean Eppers

I don’t know if that’s enough detail to qualify as a sail plan, so here’s more: I plan to leave PA between 0600 and 0630. We’ll be fighting the ebb tide for a bit in the Strait but not more than 1.5kt, and that will decrease as we get out by the shipping lanes. Going 6-6.5kts, we should catch slack tide at Cattle Pass around noon-12:30. Of course, we can always haul ass for a while and get there sooner if we want to 😁. Gotta love a MacGregor! My app says PA to Friday Harbor is 37.8nm. We’re meeting Peter and Lydia there and will stay two nights so we can go hike and whatnot. Then buddy boating from there on Friday to Blaine. I would post a snapshot of my route on DeepZoom (LOVE DeepZoom!) but can’t seem to be able to. Hope this is good enough (Darry)!

  46. Teacher’s Pet will be attending. Sail plan to follow.

    • Teacher’s Pet Passage Plan

  69. Heaven Sent arriving Fri, Aug 2nd and departing Monday, Aug 5th

  70. Andrew Ambrocichuk

Missy from Calgary with Andrew and Courtney onboard are planning to attend. We are looking into Blaine Marina to start, open to ideas of where to park and leave our trailer. Sail plan to follow.

  71. Andrew, you can park and leave your trailer at Blaine Marina, large parking area and only $9:00 US for I think 5 days. There might be a few others leaving from Blaine. Watch the web site.

  72. Caroline and Andy Sigrist

We are just on our way home from spending over 7 weeks cruising on our MacGregor. We canceled or reservation for this event.

  73. I’ve made a ferry reservation to come over on Sunday morning. I’ll spend some time biking around the island, then join you for the late afternoon. Will have to leave around 7pm to catch the 8pm ferry back.

  74. Rapture has booked to arrive at the marina on August 2nd, leaving on the 5th. We are studying options for another trip to Desolation and will decide soon. We would like to join others to sail in the Gulf Islands after Otter Bay.

  75. Mist-A-Sea plans-ish
I’m sorry this is so iffy, but I need some questions answered before I decide for sure.
    Plans for now:
Leaving from Boundary Bay or Blaine on Saturday 8 or 8:30. (Trailering and rigging that morning). Three-and-a-half (B Bay) or 3-hour (Blaine) crossing to Patos Island for an Ebb current of 1 knt at 11:20 and around up to Bedwell Harbor if we need to check in with Canadian authorities (maybe not, since we have Nexus?). Arrive Bedwell 1:45, arrive Otter Bay 3:30, which should be okay with the tide. If we don’t have to stop in, arrive Otter bay 2:40, which may be too soon? How bad are the tides with our boats. I like a 6 foot draft because it’s so hard to steer without the center board.
Casting off on Monday at 7:45? (Again how are the tides?). Heading back via Active Pass with a crossing there at 11:50 – 12:20 on a slack at 12:05, so if we have to leave that early, we’ll have 3 hours to kill. 2 hours to Point Roberts if we have to check in to US Authorities (arrive 2:30), and another 2:30 to Blaine arriving sometime after 5 (so, probably 7). Or, if we’re going directly to Crescent Beach, it takes 3 and a half hours to cross from Active Pass; arrival 5 pm, which is well after the rising tide reaches 6 feet at about 4.
Questions: How much current at Boundary Pass is okay? (We’re planning to keep south by Patos and to have our steering cable changed by then.) How much does the tide at Otter Bay matter? What is there to do to kill time before Active Pass besides Montague Harbour? How is crossing by Nexus? (Okay, I’ll look it up if I have to, but if there’s someone who knows from experience…)

    • So, we’re leaving from Blaine for sure. Trailering down, rigging, and launching for a cast off at 8:15. This should allow us to meet Darry at Patos Island light (or before) at about 11:30 for an Ebb current of about 2 knots. Then on to Bedwell Harbour on South Pender for Customs and gas at about 1:30, give or take. Another hour to Otter bay, depending on how long B. Harbour takes.

  76. Gemini Passage Plan
    Thursday Aug 1
Arrive Blaine to provision and ready boat. Dinner at the Fish & Chip Truck
    Friday Aug 2
1130 Depart Blaine for White Rock to clear Canada Customs (Nexus)
1230 Depart White Rock for Active Pass
1700 Arrive Active Pass for 1718 Slack to Ebb
1800 Arrive Otter Bay Marina at High Tide
Monday Aug 5 Depart Otter Bay Marine for 7-10 days exploring the Gulf Islands before returning to Blaine.

  77. Mover has not yet decided on a Friday or Saturday arrival. Due to a double booking, we may have 2 grand kids in tow.

  78. Darry & Leisa Major

    Windchime is coming…
    – Arriving Saturday afternoon from Crescent Beach (via East Point tide gate at 1300, and then Bedwell Harbour for fuel).
    – Leaving Monday morning (via Active Pass tide gate at 1200)
I have a reservation on a mooring ball, but on the waitlist for a slip.
    Darry

    • Looks like we’ll meet you at Patos-ish at about 11:30-ish

      • Darry & Leisa Major

        Hi Dan and Alice,
Just saw your post about meeting me on the way to otter bay.

Slack tide at East point / Patos island is about 1:00 going to flood.

It’s a large water exchange so a short transit window.

My plan is to be there just before slack to catch the last of the ebb south, so I plan to be in that area at around 12:30 to assess when to go through.

Then I will go to Bedwell Harbour for fuel before heading to Otter Bay.

If you want to go south sooner that’s up to you, but let me know. 🙂

        Ps
I have to launch at Crescent Beach before 8:00 AM, but hoping for some high-pressure northwest wind so I can take my time and sail down to Patos. I should be out in Boundary Bay by 9:00am so we can connect on VHF-68/16

        • That looks better to me, I was just going by some of the discussion from last a Wednesday night. Since I don’t see anyone else coming with us from Blaine, I think I’ll leave marina arrival and casting off times open, still planning to see you at Patos at 12:30. We’ll keep in touch, probably by phone (still haven’t fixed our vhf antenna) to let you know our location.

  79. Looks like Mover will also be on a mooring ball.
    Arriving Saturday morning.

  80. Andrew, we look forward to sailing together.
    Rick

  89. Saynomore SAILPLAN
    FINALLY GOING BACK TO SUCCIA.
Boat engine serviced, dagger board re fiber glassed, trailer repaired, and emergency trailer hitch replacement. wezzz all good to go.
Day 1. Thursday morning, wake up have at least 2 coffees.
hook up trailer, and giddy up to Pacific boarder crossing, whoops stop at duty free for much needed booze. Be nice to officer at boarder, remember your trailer plate number, don’t make him walk to the back of the boat.
Arrive at Marina trailer boat launch, pay the meter maid. Start rigging, be patient.
if no blood on deck, launch boat, make sure dagger board is up, and check for tide level… don’t launch in mud.
Go to visitors dock, squeeze in a spot or set another boat adrift and take their place.
Go find Rick on A dock and start dinking his booze. While The Admiral pays for our overnight stay on the visitors dock. Plan to eat at burger joint with R&S.
Friday, wake up, have coffee, read a book, check to see if people need help rigging their boats, if not, stand there and tell them what they are doing wrong, by asking why are you doing that and this, be critical. Once every boat is in the water. Leave for Sucia… check tides, don’t have too. Rick said that currents are against us, no fuel cost saving their, check for weather… look up, put finger in mouth and raise it high, its now dry… all good. Follow Rick there are some mean rock gardens, don’t want to do fiberglass repairs on beach at Sucia… Arrive at Sucia, don’t be the first to volunteer your anchor, stay back and make sure you buddy up to an M not and X they don’t roll nice, and Classics that’s a different story and they give you sore necks… cause you got to look down to talk to them all the time. Once the fleet is all secured scoot over to Windshime 4pm Dirty Martini… yes! that’s how Darry cleans his bilge… enjoy the olives.
Saturday do what everybody else does, but get to the outhouse first… well at least before Fred goes in. Pot luck check out meals, all boats that forgot proteins, row back to the raft up and set their boats adrift. Those who brought deserts, become your buddies for supporting your diabetic urges. Saturday night, watch sunset…yep someone(s) will have their YUKS… maybe one harmonica. Jeff might light up a telephone pole and call it a Scandinavian candle.
Sunday, extra coffee with Bailies to ease in to the morning… then do what ever the group is in the mood for, maybe a hike, WHY, one has to feel fit and healthy, before their next rum, wine, or beers. Ok Pot luck, now that boats have been set adrift, we know the we will have proteins, and desserts. Then hang around for sunset, follewed by the burning of another telephone pole, while signing KUMBaya!, then the tequila will flow, with some Lemonchello just to screw with everyone’s heads, and see if you make it back to your boat, without having to go for a swim.
Monday, once we untangle all the anchors, follow Rick he has a brand new prop so their is no way he will lead us in the rock garden, fight tides back to Blaine, with a dry finger in the air.
Once back at the harbour look at the carnage as all out fleet want to get out of the water and on their trailers before you… forget the buddy buddy system, I want to get HOME

  90. Clara & Fred, DragnFly

Drag n fly is at sucia now and secured the raft up spot. Unfortunately, we will have to leave Sunday morning instead of Monday. Sad!
