      “This is what I miss”
      MYCBC “RENDEZVOUS”
Otter Bay | Commodore Cruise | July 2026
An observation from a Past Commodore, 20 years have sailed by me, with a club that I call a family. This year more than ever. SAYNOMORE has been passed on to new sailors, creating a new chapter in our lives. Yesterday, as we remain members, we ferried our way to our Otter Bay event. Walking towards the dock lined up with 10 Macs from Classic, X’x, and M’s, not to forget a members Grand Banks that I missed greeting them, I reminisced the many gatherings, the sight of MacGregors, and the beauty in the sailors who ventured to gather and meet the family. Walking on the dock to have members rush over to greet and hug with wide smiles, welcoming us to the floc is emotional every time we meet.

It takes a special sailor to join and be part at these events. The Club created a number of these annual calendar events, presenting the opportunity for our members to challenge their skills, creating sail plans plotting their courses, view the challenges that our coastal event will present to them to complete their crossing to the destination. Knowing that they will be met and greeted by familiar and new faces. Then, living together with buzzing dock walks to check out boat, board for conversation and some spirits, pot lucks with the special prepared speech from our Commodore, or ordering pizza as we are too busy visiting and chatting, and if they are lucky Chef Speedo Saynomore scrambled eggs, to continue the festivities throughout the nigh around a fire pit.

I took a walk up and down the doc observing the ongoing activity… Peter on Mover as usual a memory that has repeated a number of times over the years, of him in the galley busy whipping up a new meal creation, Lydia with her smiles and update on lifestyle stories. Dan and Alice busy putting order to their boat, new members gathered on the doc as a meet and greet, tells of their crossing, and destinations to come. Some welcoming a grandchild, or the visit of unexpected son motoring in to see visit Mom and Dad, others involved in water activities, sitting on the shore chairs, reading, chatting while reflecting over the views of what the marina surroundings has to offer, or simply lost in thoughts.

Then I get to the event that caused me to put the laptop to typed thoughts.
Onboard Windshime for the past 20 years, sitting around with the boys, this year with Darry and Ron. Sharing conversation about everything and anything. The freedom to share our thoughts without judgment. Picturing our outlook on past, present, and future possibilities with our martini hour in hand. Then Ron sitting in the corner, out of the blue, causing Darry and I to break our exchange of stories with “This is what I miss the Most” we pause, smile, and acknowledge our friendship fostered over the years appreciating our presence in our lives.

      Past Commodore, Steve “Speedo” St-Amour.
